Tesla’s Universal V4 Supercharger: Seamless Charging for All EVs

Tesla Unveils Universal V4 Supercharger with Seamless Payment Option

Tesla has introduced its most recent V4 Supercharger in the UK, prominently displayed at its main showroom in Tottenham. In a significant shift from its predecessors, this Supercharger is designed for universal electric car use. Every V4 Supercharger station, with more set to open in the UK soon, will cater to all EVs equipped with a CCS charging port.

Already spotted in nations like the Netherlands and Germany, this new UK version stands out due to its screen and contactless payment system. Compliant with recent government mandates aimed at streamlining and demystifying EV charging, the display indicates charging costs in pence per kWh. Payment can be made either through a QR code in the Tesla app or simply by using a credit/debit card on the device.

Tesla claims the V4 Supercharger maintains the 250kW output of the V3 model, allowing, for instance, a Tesla Model Y to be charged from 0 to 80% in less than 30 minutes. While Tesla has hinted at the Supercharger’s capacity for even faster charging, details remain under wraps. Jesse Norman, the transport minister, expressed enthusiasm at the launch, stating: “This aligns with our recent regulations about transparency in EV charging. Our main goal is to establish an open market for competitors. Future measures will depend on the evolution of this market.
